What Is Really Marketing?
When visitors reach my personal blog one of the first things they notice is the headline.
But do you know exactly what marketing is?
Some believe that is all about selling, others believe that selling must generate profits because selling without profits is an exercise of futility. Marketing definition is like a shop selling ice creams. Everybody has their flavor, their own favorite.
Finally I went to the American Marketing Association looking for a more academic definition. Always remember that this kind of definition carries a lot of studies and hours of hard work behind it, to finally elaborate an almost unanimous definition. AMA says that Marketing is:
Marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders.
Wow!!! That is a definition! That definition is so important I have it memorized - I recommend you do too. Now, let me stand some points out I consider crucial for every entrepreneur. Points that must considered when building a business up.
"Marketing is a set of processes for creating, communicating and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships".
It’s easy to eliminate the shortcut, fad, BS get-rich-quick Internet marketing crap when you hold it up to that definition.
Anyone not “creating, communicating and delivering value to customers” can not be considered a marketer.
Now, be sincere and ask yourself: Are you a marketer?
